Inspiração para um estilo brasileiro: Os tecidos Chita/Inspiration for a brazilian Style: The Chita fabric

post-img

Chita textiles represent for us definitely the most typical brazilian fabric that we could identify here in Sao Paulo until the moment, showing a surface printed with flowers in the colors of nature, in different sizes ( leading to Chita, Chitinha and Chitao fabric according to the flowers size), on raw cotton.

This type of fabric is in its origins from India and during the medieval period of time it was within the colonization of the country brought to Europe, and after this it came by the portuguese hands to Brazil. Chita initially was used  for vestment by the poorer classes as well as slaves, and only gain popularity through the Hippie Movement and the cultural Tropicalismo movement of the 70s which involved intense colors and transformation of the current ways of fashion.

We just love the fabrics design of Chita and we recognize it as a part of brazilian textile identity, and a good base for our german-brazilian streetwear project. Availing the abundance of printed Chita fabric we have here in Sao Paulo we yet produced the first model of Chita Shorts  with a retro and sporty cut. We are now working on the idea of our own floral printed fabric with Chita base elements! We present it here in the blog when it’s ready!
